A member of the House of Representatives from Kebbi State, Mansur Musa, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing what he described as deep-rooted and unresolved internal problems within the PDP.
Musa, who represents Aliero/Gwandu/Jega Federal Constituency, formally announced his move on Tuesday after Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read his notification letter during plenary.
In the letter, the lawmaker lamented that the PDP had been plagued by entrenched divisions and recurring conflicts that had weakened the party’s cohesion and its ability to function as a viable political platform. He said the persistent disagreements had created conditions that no longer aligned with the expectations of his constituents.
“These lingering disputes have produced an atmosphere that hinders me from fulfilling the mandate given to me by the people,” he wrote.
Musa explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with traditional rulers, political associates and constituents. Remaining in a party beset by continuous chaos, he said, would obstruct his capacity to deliver effective representation.
“After seeking guidance and engaging in wide consultations, it became evident that staying in a platform battling unending strife would impede the responsibilities entrusted to me by God and my people,” he added.
He noted that the APC offers a more stable and organized structure that aligns with the aspirations of his constituency.
According to him, “The APC provides the necessary stability for purposeful governance. My defection is a step taken out of responsibility and commitment to serve my people better.”
He requested the House to update its records to reflect his new party affiliation. Moments later, APC lawmakers welcomed him into the ruling party during the plenary session.
