Former acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has formally transferred leadership responsibilities to the newly constituted National Working Committee (NWC) led by Tanimu Turaki.
The handover, which took place at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, followed the expiration of the Damagum-led NWC’s tenure on December 8, 2025, amid a prolonged leadership dispute involving a faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
During the ceremony, Damagum expressed confidence in the new committee, highlighting that its members have a clear mandate to restore unity within the party.
According to him, “We were able to overcome the challenges before us, and we will continue to overcome whatever comes our way.”
He maintained that the PDP remains a formidable force in Nigerian politics, noting that the attention it receives from opponents is proof of its relevance. Damagum added that although those responsible for internal strife may enjoy temporary relief, they will eventually answer for their actions.
In his remarks, Turaki commended the outgoing NWC for its contributions and promised to keep working toward strengthening and repositioning the PDP for future success.
