In a compelling tribute to visible and impactful governance, the 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, has praised the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, for what he described as “two years of leadership with a difference.” Speaking at a Special Anniversary Sabbath Service held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Aguiyi Ironsi Layout, Umuahia, Obi stated that Governor Otti’s achievements are so evident, they don’t need radio jingles or political spin to be recognized.

“This is two years of difference, of transformation you can see and feel,” Obi said. “Some say they need eight or even twenty years to deliver. But I’ve always believed a single day, if used well, can create real change. In Abia, you don’t need anyone to tell you—it’s visible everywhere.”

The former Anambra State Governor emphasized that leadership is about service, not self-interest, urging Nigerians to pray for leaders to use public resources for public good. “It’s tough to govern Nigeria, especially if you want to do it the right way,” he admitted. “We must keep Governor Otti and his team in our prayers. We’re merely trustees—what we manage isn’t ours. Governor Otti is showing that it can be done, and we need more like him.”

He reiterated his core political philosophy: “It’s not about being desperate to lead—I’m desperate to see Nigeria work. We need future leaders who share that passion.”

In response, Governor Otti credited every success of his administration to divine intervention. Quoting 1 Corinthians 3:6–7, he drew a spiritual parallel to his journey, saying, “I planted, others watered, but God gave the increase. None of our efforts would have borne fruit without God’s grace.”

Governor Otti also extended heartfelt gratitude to his administration’s team across all arms of government and to Mr. Obi for his unwavering support. “This journey is a collective one, and we’ve only come this far because of teamwork and God’s guidance,” he said, while also thanking the Church for their spiritual backing.

Delivering a sermon titled “At the Fullness of Time,” Pastor Enyinnaya K. Uguru, former President of the Abia North Conference of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, cautioned leaders against becoming complacent with present successes, warning that they must stay focused on long-term vision. He pointed out that Governor Otti’s rise to power came after several setbacks, noting that “delays are often divine periods of preparation.”

Pastor Uguru, disillusioned by traditional government media, declared his personal confidence in Otti’s leadership. “You are doing well—and I say that with evidence,” he affirmed.

Reflecting on the theme of the celebration, “Two Years of Transformation: Sustaining the Momentum,” the preacher expressed hope that Abia’s progress would not just continue but deepen under Otti’s leadership. He prayed for greater wisdom and humility for the Governor in delivering selfless service.

The thanksgiving service was attended by top government functionaries, clergy, and notable Abians. Special prayers were offered for the Governor, his cabinet, and the continued success of the “New Abia” vision.

As the state marks two years of transformation, the message from Umuahia was clear: purposeful leadership backed by integrity and divine guidance can spark a new narrative—not just for a state, but for a nation hungry for change.
