In a remarkable fulfillment of his commitment to youth empowerment and strategic human capital development, the Member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Public Procurement, Rep. Unyime Idem, has facilitated the employment of Mr. Ekemini Essien, an indigene of Akwa Ibom State, into the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
Mr. Essien, who holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, was formally presented with his letter of employment by Rep. Idem at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja. While congratulating the new appointee, the federal lawmaker charged him to be a worthy ambassador of Akwa Ibom State, urging him to demonstrate excellence, integrity, and commitment in the discharge of his duties.
“This gesture is part of my promise to facilitate 1,000 job placements for Akwa Ibomites in strategic Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in 2025,” Rep. Idem stated. “It will go hand in hand with my ongoing initiative to sponsor 100 Akwa Ibom indigenes for overseas training, which began in 2024.”
Encouraging the beneficiary, he added: “Be passionate about your job. You can’t succeed without passion. Be committed. Be sincere. Sincere people make an impact not only in the workplace but wherever they find themselves. Above all, put God first in all you do. I am a product of God’s grace you can be that too.”
Rep. Idem emphasized the broader vision behind his efforts, noting that building a strong Akwa Ibom presence in federal institutions is critical to attracting national projects and closing existing representation gaps in high-level government positions.
“It is my firm belief that in the next 10 to 15 years, we will see more Akwa Ibomites occupying key leadership positions such as directors and permanent secretaries. This will enhance federal presence in our state and ease the developmental load on our state government,” he said.
In his response, Ekemini Essien expressed heartfelt gratitude to Rep. Idem for the opportunity and pledged to represent the state with excellence and dedication. “I am deeply thankful for this opportunity. I promise to give my best and make Akwa Ibom and Rep. Idem proud,” he said.
This development underscores Rep. Idem’s unwavering commitment to empowering his constituents and fostering inclusive national development through equitable access to federal opportunities.
