A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has openly opposed the ongoing move to impeach Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, calling for urgent intervention by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The political tension in Rivers State, which resurfaced following renewed hostilities between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, escalated on Thursday as members of the State House of Assembly commenced impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy.
Reacting to the development via a Facebook post, Igbokwe condemned the impeachment plot, stating clearly that he would not support it under any circumstances.
“I will not support the impeachment of Governor Fubara for any reason whatsoever,” he wrote.
He further appealed to President Tinubu, popularly known as PBAT, to immediately step in and halt what he described as unnecessary distractions in the oil-rich state.
“PBAT should intervene to stop the distractions in the oil-rich state. Rivers State has been in the news for the wrong reasons,” Igbokwe added.
Recall that President Tinubu has previously intervened on two occasions in efforts to resolve the prolonged political crisis rocking Rivers state
