Russia is starting its own Covid-19 vaccination with clinics in the capital inoculating those at risk from the virus using its own vaccine Sputnik V, which was registered in August.
The developers say it’s 95% effective and has no major said effects but the vaccine is still undergoing mass testing.
Thousands of people have registered to get the first of the two jabs over the weekend. Each person will receive two injections, the second 22 days after the first.
It is still unclear how much Russia can manufacture.
Producers are expected to make 2 million doses of the vaccine by the year’s end.
The Mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, who announced earlier in the week about the program said it was being offered to people in the city of 13 million who work in schools and the health service, and social workers.
He further said the list would grow as more of the vaccine became available.
There’s an online registration service that allows people/residents in the profession above aged 18-60 to book free appointments at 70 sites around the city.
They will operate from 08:00 until 20:00 local time (05:00-17:00 GMT).
