Former Governor of Sokoto State and serving Senator for Sokoto North, Aliyu Wamakko, has firmly denied rumours linking him to a vice-presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released by his media aide, Abdallah El-Kurebe, Wamakko distanced himself from a recent report titled “2027 Aspirations: Northern Leaders Urged to Support Wamakko”, which claimed that Abdullahi Yerima, Chairman of Kebbe Local Government Area, called for Wamakko’s candidacy.
According to El-Kurebe, the senator has never, either publicly or privately, expressed interest in contesting for the office of Vice President or any similar political role.
“We categorically state that Senator Wamakko has never shown interest in vying for the position of Vice President in 2027 or in any related political arrangement. Any such insinuation is completely false, baseless, and irresponsible,” the statement read.
He further described Yerima’s remarks as “reckless and a calculated attempt at political mischief, aimed at misleading the public and dragging Senator Wamakko into unfounded political speculation.”
Wamakko is also demanding an immediate public apology and retraction from Yerima, warning against any further attempts to tarnish his image or misrepresent his political intentions.
As of the time of filing this report, Abdullahi Yerima has not responded to the senator’s demands.
