In a series of high-level consultative engagements, the Afahaobong Youth Movement in Abak LGA, Akwa Ibom state has intensified its campaign for fair representation ahead of the 2027 Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly elections.

On July 15, 2025, the Youth Movement paid a courtesy visit to the newly installed Clan Head of Afahaobong and 24 Village Heads within the clan. The visit served as both a congratulatory gesture to the new Clan Head and a formal expression of the youth’s collective demand for political inclusion. The youths emphasized that by 2027, it would mark two decades since Afahaobong last produced a member for the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

In his response, the Clan Head, Obong Eventus Charles, lauded the unity and resolve of the youths, describing their action as timely and justified.

“I am proud to see the youths come together in one voice. The task ahead is great, and cannot be achieved in isolation. Your desire for fairness is valid, and with unity, your aspirations shall be fulfilled,” he said.

The traditional rulers collectively expressed support for the movement’s cause, offering blessings and reaffirming their commitment to equity and justice in political representation.

Continuing their advocacy, on July 16, 2025, the Youth Movement held a strategic dialogue with Prof. Patrick Uko, President of Ujo Afahaobong, and Comrade Otobong Inyang, President of the Afahaobong Youth Council. The meeting centered on aligning strategies and fostering unity among key stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.

Further consolidating their position, a coalition of the 24 Village Youth Council Presidents and leaders of the Afahaobong Youth Movement convened on July 19, 2025, to map out a detailed plan for achieving their political goal. Discussions focused on the existing political zoning structure in Abak Local Government Area and the pressing need to address longstanding marginalization and imbalance.

A resounding message echoed through all meetings: Afahaobong deserves the opportunity to produce the next House of Assembly representative for Abak LGA. The youth movement, in partnership with traditional leaders and elders, is pursuing this agenda through peaceful, coordinated, and democratic means.

The engagements mark a revitalized political awakening within the Afahaobong Clan driven by a shared vision of fairness, inclusion, and justice.

Photos and videos from the gatherings underscore the unity and growing momentum behind the movement.
