Former Minister of Transportation and presidential aspirant, Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primaries, alleging widespread voter disenfranchisement and irregularities during the exercise.Amaechi, in a strongly worded statement issued shortly after the conclusion of the primaries, described the results announced by the party as “concocted” and lacking credibility. He insisted that the process failed to meet the standards of transparency, fairness, and democratic accountability expected in a credible primary election. The former Rivers State governor stated that he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the outcome of the exercise if the process was free, fair, and transparent. According to him, reports from across several states indicated that many accredited delegates and party members were allegedly denied the opportunity to participate in the voting process.Amaechi further alleged that the exercise was marred by manipulation, exclusion of genuine delegates, and deliberate attempts to influence the final outcome in favour of preferred interests within the party structure. He expressed disappointment that despite repeated calls for internal democracy and adherence to electoral guidelines, the party leadership allegedly failed to guarantee a level playing field for all aspirants. The former minister, however, reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law, while calling on the leadership of the ADC to address the complaints raised by aggrieved stakeholders in order to protect the integrity and credibility of the party ahead of future elections.Political observers believe the development may trigger fresh internal tensions within the ADC as reactions continue to trail the conduct and outcome of the presidential primaries.
