The manager of Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe, Mautin Tairu, popularly known as Mr M, has acknowledged fans’ frustration over the actor’s frequent portrayal of loud, stereotypically Igbo characters, admitting that he has shared similar concerns.

Tairu made the revelation while reacting to a post on X by a user, R. Ekpedeme, who appealed to the actor to take a break from such roles, particularly those characterised by constant shouting.

“Uzor needs to leave the igbotic roles for a while. I need a break from the shouting,” the fan wrote.

Responding to the complaint, Arukwe’s manager agreed that he had also grown tired of the recurring character type at some point. However, he explained that professional and business considerations sometimes outweigh personal preferences in the entertainment industry.

“As his manager, I’ve felt the same too at some point. However, business decisions take precedence over my personal preferences,” he said.

Tairu further explained that the actor’s repeated portrayal of such characters was largely influenced by audience preferences on YouTube, where the style appears to attract viewers.

He noted that Arukwe’s cinema productions offer a different experience, as the actor does not rely on the same character type across all his projects.

According to the manager, the team adopts different approaches for different platforms, taking into account what audiences want and the demands of each market.

His comments have brought attention to the balance Nollywood actors and their management teams must strike between maintaining creative variety and meeting commercial expectations in an increasingly competitive entertainment industry.
