Petrol prices set to drop as Dangote refinery slashes gantry price to N1,215 per litre.

Nigerian motorists may soon enjoy some relief at the pump as filling stations operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and MRS are expected to reduce petrol prices following the latest price adjustment by Dangote Refinery.

The development comes after Dangote Refinery lowered its gantry price of petrol to N1,215 per litre, a move expected to trigger adjustments across the country’s downstream petroleum sector.

With the refinery accounting for a significant portion of Nigeria’s domestic fuel supply, the latest reduction is likely to influence the prices offered by other fuel retailers.

Managers of NNPCL and MRS filling stations have reportedly confirmed that their outlets are preparing to adjust pump prices in response to the development.

An NNPCL station manager in Abuja, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said motorists should expect a reduction before the end of the week.

“Our fuel price is expected to drop from this week following Dangote Refinery’s petrol price cut,” the manager told DAILY POST.

A manager at an MRS filling station also confirmed that a price reduction was likely in the coming days.

Similarly, the President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Abubakar Maigandi, said independent marketers would adjust their prices once they begin receiving petrol at the new rate from Dangote Refinery.

“Our members would cut fuel prices as soon as we receive Dangote Refinery’s petrol from this week,” he told DAILY POST.

The expected reduction comes amid a decline in international crude oil prices, which reportedly fell by three and four per cent, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) dropping to $99 per barrel and Brent crude trading at $104 per barrel.

Despite the anticipated adjustment, petrol prices currently range between N1,370 and N1,429 per litre at filling stations in Abuja and neighbouring areas.

The latest development has raised hopes among motorists that the reduction in Dangote Refinery’s gantry price will eventually translate into lower pump prices across the country, easing some of the pressure on households, transport operators and businesses.
