Anambra Election: Soldiers Kill Four Gunmen Who Shot Dead Two DSS Operatives

The gunmen who were part of those that attacked and killed two Operatives of the Department of State Services on Friday has been confirmed dead by the Nigerian Army.

According to the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, who made the announcement in a statement on Saturday said four gunmen were eliminated.

Nwachukwu said troops of 82 Division conducting Exercise Golden Dawn neutralised the gunmen in a gun battle on Friday evening at Nnobi Junction in Idemili South Local Government.

NEWSIE EVENTS had on Friday, reported that the officers were ambushed by the gunmen while on an election campaign duty in the Ekwulobia area of the state.

Going by some footage and photographs of the incident, showed that the gunmen had strong firepower against the security agents as bullets riddled windshields of vehicles.

The army spokesperson said that after the attack, troops swiftly mobilised to the scene and embarked on the pursuit of the criminals along Nnewi – Nnobi road.

“The soldiers made contact with the fleeing gunmen, engaged them and killed four. A number of weapons and items were recovered.
“These include two AK-47 Rifles, one GALIL Ace 5.56 x 45 Iwi Gun, one Avofeng Handheld radio and one Black Highlander jeep,” he said.
The army spokesperson condemned the attempt by the Indigenous People of Biafra and its Eastern Security Network to instil fear “and sabotage forthcoming Anambra governorship election.”
