The Chief Imam, Aminu Garba, has reportedly been kidnapped by bandits, alongside 11 persons.

According to reports, the Chief Imam was preparing to lead Juma’at congregational prayer at Gatawa Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Daily Trust reported that the Imam was kidnapped along with 3 others on Friday.
The assailants also blocked the Sabon Birni-Gatawa Road on Saturday, shot three persons and kidnapped seven others.

Confirming the attack, member, representing Sabon Birni South Constituency in the state’s House of Assembly, Sa’idu Ibrahim, said the injured persons were currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Wamakko.

He said another woman, who was shot at Dama Village, had her leg amputated because it could not be fixed.
When contacted, spokesperson for the Sokoto Police Command, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, said he would contact the officer in charge of the area and get back to our reporter but he had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had vowed that his regime would flush out bandits from the country.
Buhari had given the assurance on Friday when a Nigerian Government delegation paid a visit to Governor Aminu Tambuwal over the killing of 23 travellers by suspected bandits.
