Court Approves Former AGF Adoke Request To Travel For Medical Care

Justice Inyang Ekwo on Thursday ordered the release of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke passport to travel for a medical check-up at the United Arab Emirate, where he was in exile for about five years.

He ordered Adoke to return the international passport to the court within two days of his return for the foreign trip.

Adoke is to leave on December 15 and return on or before January 10, 2021.

Justice Inyang Ekwo gave this ruling in a federal high court sitting in Abuja where Adoke alongside businessman Aliyu Abubakar is standing trial.

According to the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Adoke is being prosecuted on a 14 count charge on money laundering and fraud-related crime worth $6million.

The former AGF was also accused of making “structured cash payments, in 22 tranches” amounting to N80 million, another of such structured payments in 13 tranches summing up to N50 million into his Unity Bank account.

Abubakar was said to have paid the sum of N300 million dollars to Adoke. Abubakar was also accused of paying the equivalent of N367,318,800 in dollars to one Usman Mohammed Bello and allegedly using the sum of N300 million, all these activities are termed unlawful and are in violation of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act, 2011.
