Kidnapped Oyo Schoolchildren, teacher’s finally gain freedom -FG

By Our Reporter.

The Federal Government has announced that the schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State have regained their freedom, with the Presidency attributing their release to a successful military operation.

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated that Nigerian troops rescued the victims, describing the development as another success in the ongoing fight against insecurity.

However, the official account has sparked widespread skepticism on social media, where many Nigerians questioned whether the victims were actually rescued through a military operation or released after a ransom was paid.

Several commentators argued that previous kidnapping cases have often ended with unofficial reports of ransom payments despite official denials. They contend that this history has eroded public confidence in government statements on the release of kidnapping victims.

While no evidence has been made public to contradict the Presidency’s account, the online debate reflects growing concerns over transparency in the handling of kidnapping incidents and the broader challenge of insecurity across the country.

The Federal Government has consistently maintained that it does not negotiate with or pay ransom to kidnappers, insisting that security agencies remain committed to dismantling criminal networks responsible for abductions nationwide.
