Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has confirmed the death of a Nigerian Army Lieutenant who lost his life during a rescue operation aimed at securing the release of kidnapped victims in the state.
The governor made the disclosure while addressing concerns over the growing threat of kidnapping and other criminal activities, describing the fallen officer as a hero who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.
According to Makinde, the rescue operation was launched as part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat criminal elements and ensure the safety of residents. He noted that although the mission resulted in the tragic loss of the military officer, authorities remain committed to protecting lives and restoring peace across the state.
Speaking on the sacrifices required in the fight against insecurity, the governor declared that neither political leaders nor security personnel would shy away from their responsibilities.
“If people have to be sacrificed, including myself, we will do it,” Makinde stated, emphasizing his administration’s determination to confront criminality and support security agencies in their operations.
The governor praised the courage and dedication of the armed forces and other security personnel working under difficult conditions to safeguard communities. He also extended condolences to the family of the deceased officer and assured them that his sacrifice would not be forgotten.
Makinde reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security architecture across Oyo State through collaboration with the military, police, local vigilante groups, and other stakeholders.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers faced daily by security operatives in the line of duty as authorities intensify efforts to tackle kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes across the country.
