The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man accused of impersonating a Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) after intercepting a Lexus LX570 SUV displaying a fake Presidency number plate in Abuja.
The suspect was arrested on October 20, 2026, in Maitama District during a police operation.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, explaining that the suspect and the vehicle were taken into custody for investigation and possible prosecution.
Adeh said preliminary investigations revealed that the concealed number plate carried the inscription “PRESIDENCY” with registration number 10B218 FG.
She explained that although the suspect claimed to be the rightful holder of the number plate, subsequent investigations indicated that the documents presented in connection with the registration were forged.
The police spokesperson further alleged that the suspect had falsely presented himself as a Permanent Secretary attached to the Office of the SGF.
The command is continuing its investigation into the matter, with further legal action expected to depend on the outcome of the process.
