A multinational oil entrepreneur Engr. Jonathan Nwogu has called on parents to ensure proper upbringing of their children.

Engr. Nwogu made the call on Saturday in Abak LGA, Akwa Ibom State during the graduation ceremony of his last daughter, Jennifer Nwogu, at Tower of Ivory school Nigeria.

The oil merchant maintained that the importance of training children in education cannot be overemphasised, noting that it’s the best thing and it is basic.

He said children are special gifts from God and should be brought up in a decent manner as such they would contribute positively to the development of the society when they are independent through quality education.

The Imo state born philanthropist noted with passion that the best thing parents can do for their wards is to render sacrificial responsibility in giving their children proper moral value through education to enable them stand independent and it will stand for the rest of their lives.

When asked about education in Nigeria, Nwogu said “well asking me about education in Nigeria is just like asking me about politics in Nigeria, our main problem here is corruption and education in Nigeria is crumbling because of corrupt practices and if you do not send your child to private school you end up in a big mess. Look at ASSU strike contending longer and the children are at home, is that how a country will grow? So, education is not quite well in this Nigeria and that is why all my Children are in private institutions outside the country because our country’s education system has been paralysed”

“Unfortunately, none of these sanctions have any impact on the government. The students are the ones taking lectures and exam-inations, whereas lecturer’s are the ones attending the statutory meetings, the government must have failed but ASUU should not fail the students”

Engr Jonathan commended Tower of Ivory schools Nigeria for the standard of education anchored on transparency, accountability and the mission of qualitative education in order to bring the dividends of democracy to the society.

He called on parents to continue soliciting the support of their children to enable them succeed in the task ahead of becoming independent.
