The Chairman of the House Committee on Public Procurement, Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem, has extended warm felicitations to Chief Don Etiebiet, former Minister of Petroleum, as he celebrates his 80th birthday.
On behalf of my family and the people of Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, I offer my heartfelt congratulations to Chief Don Etiebiet, CON, an esteemed elder statesman and influential politician, on reaching this significant milestone.
I am particularly proud to have Chief Etiebiet, a Fellow of the Nigeria Computer Society (FNCS), the Computer Registration Council of Nigeria (FCPN), the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (FNMGS), and a member of various prestigious organizations such as the Society of Petroleum Engineers (MSPE), the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (MNAPE), and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), among my constituents.
Born on September 15, 1944, Chief Don Etiebiet has made substantial contributions to Nigeria. His impact is evident through his tenure as Minister of Petroleum Resources and as the founder of Data Sciences Nigeria Limited, marking him as a trailblazer in Nigeria’s ICT sector.
Chief Etiebiet’s role as a former President of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) and his pioneering efforts in computerization and data communications are notable. His contributions were crucial in the establishment of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), which played a key role in integrating computer technology into federal services and advancing eNigeria and eGovernance.
Moreover, his instrumental role in the formation of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and his work on data communications and internet applications have left an indelible mark on the country.
As we celebrate this momentous occasion, I wish our esteemed octogenarian continued longevity, good health, and many more years of success and fulfillment.
