Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, has appealed to Nigerians to allow him to complete what he described as the South-West’s remaining four years in the presidency through a transitional government of national unity.
Makinde made the appeal on Thursday during the APM’s South-West town hall meeting in Akure, Ondo State, as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
President Bola Tinubu, who hails from Lagos State in the South-West, is seeking re-election in 2027 as he approaches the end of his first four-year term.
Makinde said Nigerians would ultimately decide whether the South-West should complete an eight-year presidential tenure, adding that his proposed transitional government would offer an alternative if voters supported the idea.
“The rest of Nigeria will choose between if the South-West should complete its eight years. And if the answer is yes, allow Seyi to complete the remaining four years through a transitional government of national unity.”
The Oyo governor also urged APM members and supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation, advising them to prioritise door-to-door campaigns over relying heavily on billboards and posters.
He expressed confidence that the party’s message would resonate with Nigerians, whom he said were struggling with economic hardship and wanted a change in the country’s direction.
“What I want from the South-West, go door-to-door, go to every area, and it’s not an issue that somebody did billboards or they did posters. Take your fliers and go door-to-door, you will be well received because everybody is hungry.
“Nigerians want a reset, so go and meet them, they will receive you, convert them and explain the Reset Agenda to them.”
Makinde urged party members to take the APM’s proposed Reset Agenda directly to communities and explain how it would address the concerns of citizens.
His remarks come as political parties and aspirants begin positioning themselves for the 2027 elections, with debates over leadership, national unity, economic conditions and power rotation expected to shape the campaign.
