Abdulrasheed Maina Arrested in Niger Republic

The Chairman of the defunct Pension Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina has been arrested in Niger Republic by a combination of security intelligence operatives in Niger and anti-corruption agents in Nigeria.

According to PR Nigeria, a news platform stated that Mr. Maina was arrested Monday evening in Niger Republic.
The Officer said his rearrest was possible due to the existing mutual relationship and security agreement between the two countries- Nigeria and Niger.

Mr. Maina is facing a 12-count money laundering charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Part of the allegations slammed against him is that he used his firm to launder N2billion and also used some of it to acquire properties in Abuja.

The trial Judge, Justice Okon Abang had issued a warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear in court and jumped bail.

Maina was said to have stopped attending his trial since September 29 2020 and this led to the apprehension of his surety, Senator Ali Ndume last Wednesday but was later granted bail due to what the Justice described as having a record of good behavior in court.

Although details of the arrest of embattled former Chairman, Maina is not known reports have it that he was arrested in Niger Republic.
