Doctors under the aegis of the Nigerian Medical Association, Enugu State, on Monday, rejected the election of Dr. Tony Onyia as the Chairman of the association in the state.
The National Executive Council of NMA has been called on for immediate cancellation of the election and allow an election guided by the NMA constitution on financial up-to-date members cum institutions to vote for their candidate of choice to man the affairs of NMA in the state.
Recall that NMA Enugu State was recently engulfed in a leadership crisis which led to an inconclusive election marred by violence on August 6, 2020, at the Michael Okpara Square, Enugu.
Over the weekend, there was news of one Dr. Tony Onyia from ESUT Parklane Hospital, who allegedly masterminded the violent election of August 2020 being elected as the new chairman of the NMA Enugu by the National Caretaker Committee.
However, the Concerned Doctors in a statement on Monday, titled, “National Medical Association Caretaker Committee sent to normalise NMA Enugu disrupted election further, bastardised the NMA constitution to concede winner to the same man that brought world shame to medical professional on the election crisis of 6th August 2020 in Enugu,” said they rejected the election in its entirety and want a cancellation.
Dr. Rosemary Uzowulu, Chairman National Committee on Affiliate Affairs, in a statement said, “It was a clear show of evil and gross corruption in the nation that is not just on the politicians as many assume, but on the elite, medical profession to say the least.
“The same man that paraded the bloody show of shame was declared chairman of NMA, Enugu State by the Caretaker Committee.”
