By Divine Sam⁷

A former member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Fiokedu Okorie has faulted the former minister of Niger Delta, Chief Godswill Akpabio over the decision to contest for the senatorial seat in Ikot Ekpene senatorial District, the position he authoritatively said, was the turn of Abak Federal Constituency to be at the Red Chambers.

Hon Fiokedu who was the member of the 3rd Assembly, said that the National working committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC does not have the monopoly of power to impose a senate candidate on the people of Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, noting that any attempt to do that, will create disorder in the party.

Okorie, who is the proprietor of the Nigerian Christian Academy, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, stated this at the weekend in an interview with our reporter. He said that if his party APC wants to have votes in the senatorial district, justice and equity must prevail.

Hon. Dr. Fiokedu Okorie

According to him, “I was not part of the arrangement that brought Akpabio as a Senator in 2015. “I contributed immensely as an individual towards the emergence of PDP in the federal constituency to produced a deputy governor.

Giving Abak federal constituency a deputy governor was not an arrangement or agreement for Senate seat to go to Ikot Ekpene federal constituency. The truth is that, there was nobody from Abak that came up to contest I didn’t also indicate interest ”

Hon Okorie noted with dismay, that the problem of those at the helms of leadership want to dictate for masses, even when they are not accepted by the people.

Even if the people of Abak federal constituency had given Akpabio a chance to go to Senate in 2015, why can’t he hand over to the federal constituency that gave him the opportunity to serve.

“If the appeal court do justice and ask DIG Udom Ekpoudom Rtd to continue with his campaign, definitely we will create a stage for reconciliation but anything outside that, we will decide an alternative”.

He called on the people of Abak federal constituency to pursue their rightful mandate which he said “democratically belong to them in 2023”.
