Amaechi says he could leave wife if she governs Nigeria like Tinubu.

Former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, has said he would consider leaving his wife, Judith, if she became president and governed Nigeria in the same manner as President Bola Tinubu.

Amaechi made the remarks during an interview with Rapid TV, while urging Nigerians not to support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

He explained that although he shared a close emotional bond with his wife, such personal attachment would not stop him from criticising her leadership if he disagreed with her style of governance.

According to him, he would not support his wife if she adopted policies and leadership practices similar to those of the incumbent president.

“Right now, the person I’m closest to is my wife, not my kids. So, if my wife becomes president and starts doing the same things Tinubu is doing, I’ll be upset and won’t follow her, even though I love her. It’s either she changes, or I leave her,” Amaechi said.

He also appealed to Nigerians to make their political decisions based on governance and leadership performance rather than religious, ethnic or partisan considerations.

“I hope Nigerians won’t let religion, politics, or ethnicity influence their choice. Just forget about Tinubu,” he said.

Amaechi further argued that Nigerians had experienced Tinubu’s administration and should consider giving opposition parties an opportunity to govern in the 2027 general election.

He maintained that the incumbent administration had already been tested, while the opposition had yet to demonstrate what it could offer at the federal level.

“There’s a difference between Tinubu’s group and ours. They’ve been tested, so you know the next four years will be tough. We haven’t been tested yet, so give us a chance,” he added.
