The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has rejected reports that Governor Hope Uzodimma has lost the party’s ticket for the Imo West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that he remains its candidate.
The party’s position followed a ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which ordered Uzodimma to stop presenting himself as the APC senatorial candidate and directed the party to submit the name of former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a statement issued on Thursday, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, described reports of Uzodimma’s replacement as unverified. The party also accused opposition figures of circulating claims suggesting that the governor had been removed as its candidate.
Maintaining its position, the APC said Uzodimma won the party’s senatorial primary with overwhelming support from its members.
“The All Progressives Congress is aware of some unverified reports making the rounds across many social media platforms and being circulated by renowned opposition figures about a purported change in the candidacy of our Party for Imo West Senatorial District.
“The party wishes to state without any confusion that His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, remains the candidate of our Party for Imo West Senatorial District, having won the primaries of our great party with the overwhelming support of the majority of our party members.
“The party’s legal department shall study the outcome of a legal intervention in this matter and act accordingly.
“We urge our teeming party members and supporters of our great party to remain focused and undistracted and remain committed to working assiduously for the victory of our party across all constituencies in the state.“
The party said its legal department would review the court’s decision before determining its next course of action.
The conflicting positions have brought fresh attention to the APC’s senatorial ticket for Imo West, as the court’s ruling favours Okorocha while the state chapter maintains that Uzodimma remains its candidate for the 2027 election.
