Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has backed Bournemouth to defeat Manchester United and tipped Chelsea to secure victory over Tottenham Hotspur in their upcoming Premier League fixtures.

Carragher expects Bournemouth to beat United 2-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday, predicting that the Red Devils’ difficult run of form will continue.

He also forecasts a 2-0 victory for Chelsea when they host Tottenham on Saturday in what promises to be a keenly contested London derby.

Manchester United have endured a challenging period, with their reported 4-1 Champions League defeat away to Como extending their winless run to seven consecutive matches across all competitions.

Manager Michael Carrick apologised to travelling supporters after the loss, describing the team’s performance as “unacceptable”.

United have managed just one victory in seven Premier League matches this season and sit 13th in the standings, increasing the pressure on the team ahead of their encounter with Bournemouth.

Carragher believes the Manchester club will struggle to turn their fortunes around against their visitors, while expecting Chelsea to take advantage of home support to overcome Tottenham.

Beyond those two fixtures, the former England international also shared his thoughts on other matches scheduled for the Premier League weekend, including Arsenal’s clash with Everton and Liverpool’s meeting with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Carragher expressed confidence in Arsenal’s ability to overcome Everton, pointing to the Gunners’ performances throughout the campaign.

He also expects Liverpool to halt Brighton’s winning run when the two sides meet at Anfield.

“What an excellent selection of fixtures we have in the Premier League this weekend. I believe Arsenal will encounter no difficulties in defeating Everton, particularly considering their exceptional performance throughout this season.

“However, Brighton may encounter greater challenges at Anfield as I anticipate Liverpool will end their winning run. In other matches, I foresee Chelsea prevailing against Spurs in a home fixture on Saturday.”

Meanwhile, Manchester City hold a three-point advantage over Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table ahead of their away fixture against Aston Villa in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Carragher’s predictions have set the stage for an intriguing weekend of English football, with several clubs looking to strengthen their positions as the league campaign progresses.
