Former Jigawa State Governor and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has urged Nigerians to learn from their past electoral decisions and carefully reconsider their choices ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Lamido gave the advice during the inauguration of the PDP Campaign Council at the party’s state headquarters in Dutse, Jigawa State, where he called on voters to assess the performance of previous PDP administrations alongside that of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former governor said Nigerians should base their decisions on the records of the different administrations and their impact on the lives of citizens rather than repeat what he described as past mistakes at the ballot box.

“I believe Nigerians have learnt from their mistakes. Therefore, they must critically examine the achievements of previous administrations under the PDP and compare them with those of the current administration before deciding who should lead them,” he said.

Lamido also accused the APC-led government of failing to meet the expectations of Nigerians, arguing that the country needed experienced and capable leadership to address its numerous challenges.

He expressed concern over the state of healthcare, education and other essential services, alleging that residents of Jigawa State and Nigerians in general were experiencing difficulties in accessing quality public services.

“Today, Jigawa is facing serious challenges in accessing quality healthcare. Hospitals lack adequate medical services and essential drugs, while the education sector continues to deteriorate,” he said.

Reflecting on the PDP’s place in Nigeria’s political history, Lamido described the party as a significant force in the country’s democratic journey since the return to civilian rule in 1999.

He maintained that the party had remained a major platform for political participation despite challenges and the emergence of several rival parties.

“Since 1999, almost all political parties have collapsed, leaving the PDP as the only surviving party to date,” he said.

“It has seen yesterday, Today and, by the grace of God, it will see tomorrow,” Lamido added.

The former governor further assured party faithful that the PDP was prepared to mobilise support for its candidates across all levels of government in the 2027 elections, including the presidency, Senate, House of Representatives and state Houses of Assembly.

He said the party intended to conduct peaceful campaigns, promising to avoid insults, intimidation and personal attacks while focusing on its message to voters.

Lamido emphasised that the PDP’s campaign would centre on restoring good governance and rebuilding public confidence in political leadership as the country approaches another crucial electoral contest.

His remarks come as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with debates over governance, public services and the performance of the current administration expected to feature prominently in the campaigns.
