Justice4Uwaila: Six Suspects Arrested By Police In Edo Over the Murder Of Uwaila

The Edo State Police Command, on Wednesday, paraded six persons allegedly connected with the rape and killing of Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100-level student of the University of Benin.
The 22-year-old Uwaila’s murder was a tragedy that sent shock-waves across the country and brought about repeated calls for an end to gender-based violence. The post-mortem examination results confirmed that she was raped and gruesomely murdered.
According to the police one of the suspects admitted to committing the crime, and names four other suspects who perpetrators that evil acts.
The suspects are Nelson Ogbebor, Akato Valentine, Mrs. Tina Samuel, Mrs. Mary Ade, Nosa Osabohien, and Collins Ulegbe.
According to the principal suspect, Collins Ulegbe, they were contracted by another suspect Mrs. Mary Ade to kill the victim for ritual purposes. They were paid a sum of 1 Million Naira for the job.
After the act, they allegedly cleaned the deceased’s blood with a white handkerchief and handed it over to Mary.
Ulegbe added that they were not given any orders to rape Uwaila but his men wanted to and so he allowed them. Afterward, he hit her head with a fire extinguisher he found in the church.
“These criminals went into the church building to wreak havoc where she was raped,” the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, said.“
Uwaila’s phone was said to be found in the possession of one of the suspects. The mother of a suspect at large was also arrested. She denied any knowledge of the crime.
Recall that the 100-Level Microbiology student of University of Benin, Uwaila Vera Omozuwa was said to have gone to the church to read in May 2020, when the suspects went into the church, raped and inflicted serious injury on her that eventually led to her death days later in the hospital.
