The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointments of former Speaker, Balarabe Sa’idu Gani, and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sunusi Ahmad Bature Dawakin Tofa, as commissioners in the state executive council.
Their confirmation followed a screening exercise during Tuesday’s plenary session, presided over by the Speaker of the Assembly, Jibril Isma’il Falgore.
The two nominees were forwarded to the Assembly by Governor Yusuf for consideration to fill vacancies in the Ministries of Information and Solid Minerals.
Speaking with journalists after his screening, Bature disclosed that reviving the operations of government-owned media organisations would be among his major priorities if appointed Commissioner for Information.
He said, “My priority will be to revive the operations of Kano Radio, expand the number of channels operated by ARTV and provide adequate manpower and equipment to enable Triumph Newspaper to resume daily publication.”
He further explained that strengthening the state’s media institutions would enhance their ability to effectively inform, educate and serve the people of Kano.
Meanwhile, the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore, congratulated Balarabe Sa’idu Gani on securing the governor’s approval and the Assembly’s confirmation.
Falgore also expressed confidence in the ability of the newly confirmed commissioners to discharge their responsibilities as they prepare to take up their respective offices.
