Nigeria mourns as Rotimi Amaechi’s mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, dies at 89.

Former Governor of Rivers State and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has lost his beloved mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, who died peacefully at the age of 89.

The Amaechi family announced her passing in a statement issued by the Rotimi Amaechi Media Office on Thursday, describing the late matriarch as a devout Christian, respected community leader, and a woman whose life was dedicated to promoting peace, unity, and selfless service.

According to the family, Dame Mary Amaechi was a cherished mother and grandmother who held her family together through love, faith, and compassion. She was widely admired within and beyond her community for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support for others.

Tributes have continued to pour in from political leaders and well-wishers across the country. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described her as a champion of faith whose life exemplified humility, sacrifice, and service to humanity, while extending his condolences to Rotimi Amaechi and the entire Amaechi family.

The family has expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and sympathy received during this difficult time, adding that funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
