The Nigeria National League (NNL) has announced a new date for the opening match of the 2026/2027 season between Heartland FC and Crown FC.
The encounter, which was initially scheduled for Saturday, October 31, at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, Imo State, will now take place on Sunday, November 1, at the same venue. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
All other Matchday One fixtures have also been shifted to the following week.
The NNL Chief Operating Officer, Danlami Alanana, explained that the adjustment became necessary due to important state events scheduled to take place on the original date.
Alanana noted that the league wants to ensure adequate representation from the host state at the opening ceremony, adding that a strong turnout would help create the atmosphere expected for the commencement of the new season.
He apologised to both clubs and their supporters for any inconvenience caused by the change, while appealing for their understanding and cooperation.
According to him, the decision was taken in the interest of ensuring a successful and memorable start to the new NNL campaign.
