Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North Senatorial District, has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his business record, questioning his ability to manage Nigeria’s economy if elected president in 2027.
Oshiomhole, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the remarks on Thursday during the party’s presidential campaign rally in Ekiti State.
He challenged Atiku, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, to explain how he intended to create jobs for Nigerians when, according to him, some of his own businesses had failed and closed down.
“How can a man who closed down his own businesses come and tell you he will create jobs for you?” Oshiomhole asked.
The former Edo State governor alleged that Atiku had established businesses with the potential to provide employment for Nigerians but failed to sustain them.
He argued that a presidential candidate seeking to revive the country’s economy and generate employment should be able to demonstrate a record of sustaining successful private enterprises.
Oshiomhole further questioned Atiku’s claims of being a successful businessman and job creator, insisting that his alleged business failures contradicted his economic promises.
He maintained that a candidate who could not sustain his private businesses should not be trusted to manage the Nigerian economy.
The remarks form part of the growing political exchanges between the APC and opposition figures as political parties intensify activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
