The campaign convoy of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reportedly come under attack in Calabar, Cross River State.
The incident was made public on Wednesday by Ester Umoh, a media aide to the former Anambra State governor, who raised the alarm in a social media post, alleging that thugs were attempting to attack the convoy.
“Thugs are trying to attack our convoy,” she said.
The reported attack occurred shortly after Obi arrived in Calabar alongside his wife, Margaret, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, for a town hall meeting.
Although details surrounding the incident remain sketchy, the development has raised fresh concerns about the safety of political candidates and their supporters as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The incident comes barely two months after Obi’s convoy reportedly encountered a similar situation in Benue State, where suspected thugs blocked the Boko Road near the Air Force Base in an alleged attempt to prevent him from entering the state.
As of the time of filing this report, further details about the Calabar incident were yet to emerge.
