Structure in America || Caleb Onyeabor

Newsie Events:

The two parties with the largest and most effective structures in the United States of America are the Democrat party and the Republican party. This is why it is very difficult for candidates from other smaller parties or even independent candidates to win the Presidential Elections in America. Wait, you don’t know that there are other parties in America aside the big two ? Well now you know. They are not pulling much weight because they have a relatively weaker structure than the big two.

What is structure ? A structure is a network of people at different units and levels, in different positions, capacities and capabilities working together to achieve or deliver a political goal.

There are 50 states in America. There are about 435 congressional districts in America. Each state has state legislative assembly and every city have a municipal Government. That means, there are 50 state governors, 100 senators, over 400 congressmen, hundreds of state legislators scattered across the 50 states and over 200 mayors holding political offices in America.

Now when you look at these numbers, you will find out that they are shared between the Democratic party and the Republican party. This is to say each of these two parties have very strong people in every district, every city and every state working to ensure that their party wins. Every party has their strong holds.

In America, there are red states and there are blue states and there are swing States. Red states are usually dominated by the Republicans. It is very difficult for a Democrat to win in a red state, it doesn’t matter who you are. It happens rarely. Blue states are dominated by the Democrats. Again, it is very difficult for Republican candidates to win in blue states. States like New York and California are rarely won by a republican candidate.

Think of it this way, just like Tinubu’s Lagos. It is very rare for any party to win Lagos because the state is held and dominated by Tinubu’s APC.

Now swing states are states that can be won by any of the two parties if much work is done. Note, those states are usually shared between the two major parties that have strong members of their parties in almost the same proportion.

The Democrat and the Republican party are heavily funded. The both parties have a strong network of civil society groups and activists working for them in all the states, all the districts and all the cities. They are well rooted in America and unless a third party is able to match them in these, elections are always between the two of them.

As it stands in America now, no politician can become President outside of the two parties. This is simply because the two parties have widespread members and network both in and out of political offices, at different levels and capacities working to ensure that their party wins.

Without the democratic party structure, Obama would not have gone anywhere. Without the Republican party structure, Trump wouldn’t have won in 2016 and if the Democrat party did not become stronger than the Republican party in 2020, Biden will be at his home in Delaware and not in the white house.

Politics, even in America, is bottom-top first and not top-bottom. The Democrat party are trying to take over areas controlled by the Republican party because they understand how important that will be to the presidential elections next two years. This 2022, the two parties are going to put it their very best to capture and recapture new areas in the mid term elections. The two parties are dominant at the federal level because they are dominant at the local level. The Democrat or Republican parties are strong in elections because they have areas where they control. Because they have people working to deliver them in different states, different districts, different cities both party and non-party members.

Let nobody deceive you. Structures are the most important thing you need to win elections any where in the world. Before the APC could defeat the PDP, there were some defections. Strong people in different states and local government areas changed camp and aligned with the APC. Senators joined the APC, House of Reps members joined, Governors joined. It is was then that they stood a chance because like the PDP, they had built a national structure and so can challenge the PDP head to head which they did and won.

So the focus shouldn’t be on mocking the idea of structure. Rather it should be on how to build a formidable one that can rival what the major parties have.

There are 8 months before the general elections. Build structures. Have your men take control of local governments, wards, cities and states or have the men that can deliver states, wards, zones and LGAs to switch to your side. Then there will be a chance.

Okay bye bye.
