Nigerian woman arrested at Seychelles airport for cocaine trafficking

According to a press release from the police on Monday, March 27, 2023, the Seychelles Supreme Court has remanded a Nigerian lady who was detained on charges of conspiring to import and traffic a restricted substance.

According to the police, the 52-year-old woman was detained after being apprehended on Thursday at the Seychelles International Airport following her arrival on an Ethiopian Airlines flight, according to SeychellesNewsAgency.

A search, discovery, and seizure of 250 grams of what is suspected to be cocaine led to the arrest of the Nigerian.

The arrest came less than a year after Elsie Esther Vambe, a 45-year-old foreign woman, received a five-year prison term for bringing in a prohibited substance and a second five-year term for trafficking in a controlled substance.

Seychelles’ archipelago in the western Indian Ocean, has a zero-tolerance policy towards the trafficking and importation of illegal drugs. There is a maximum sentence of life in prison if found guilty.
