FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023: Super Falcons fail to progress to quarter-finals after losing to England on penalty

The Super Falcons of Nigeria were unable to proceed past the group stage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 after losing to England in a controversial penalty shootout.

 

Both teams were unable to score after 90 minutes of play, and after 30 minutes of extra time, the score stayed the same.

 

Even after Lauren James was sent out for stamping on Nigerian player Michelle Alozie, the England team was reduced to 10 players, the Nigerian stars appeared to have the best chance of scoring in the match. However, England’s defensive play extended the game before a penalty shootout. On penalties, England prevailed 4–2.

 

In the quarterfinals of the tournament,either Colombia or Jamaica will square off against England.
