Police in Enugu have arrested a 30-year-old man, Okpara Chibuike Emmanuel, for allegedly killing his girlfriend following an argument over HIV infection.The suspect, of Olympic Layout, One-Day, Enugu, was arrested on September 21 at about 6:30pm by operatives of Awkunanaw Division after being rescued from an angry mob, according to Police PRO, SP Daniel Ndukwe.The victim was identified simply as Chinyere. Her surname and address are yet to be established.Preliminary investigation revealed that Emmanuel allegedly killed the victim on September 19, wrapped her remains in nylon and locked them inside the toilet of his apartment.The crime was uncovered after neighbours perceived offensive odour from the decomposing body, forced the door open and apprehended him before police arrival.During interrogation, the suspect confessed to hitting the deceased on the head with a pestle during an argument over who infected the other with HIV.Her remains have been evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to trace her relatives.Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has ordered the State CID to conduct thorough investigation and arraign the suspect in court.
