The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested a former worker of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, Mr. Isaac Zegbe, alongside his accomplices for alleged vandalism and theft of electricity cables.The suspects were paraded by the FCT Command of the NSCDC on Tuesday in Abuja. According to the Commandant, the group is accused of vandalizing power installations and stealing cables worth over N350 million across different parts of the FCT.NSCDC said the arrest followed credible intelligence and weeks of surveillance. The former AEDC staff allegedly used his insider knowledge of the power network to coordinate the vandalism and sell the stolen cables to scrap dealers.The Commandant described the act as economic sabotage that has caused blackouts and huge losses to both AEDC and residents.All suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.The NSCDC has vowed to intensify raids on scrap markets and arrest buyers of vandalized public infrastructure.Newsie Events will bring you updates as the case progresses.
