Foreign Nationals Sentenced to Seven Years for Crude Oil Theft

A Federal High Court In Nigeria sentenced six foreign nationals and a Nigerian to seven years in prison for oil theft from pipelines in the Niger River Delta.

The foreigners include two Ukrainians, two Pakistanis, an Indonesian, a Ghanaian, and a Nigerian.

The convicts who were arrested in 2017 were charged alongside a company, Aztral shipping Corp. Sa and a vessel MT. TECNE on counts of conspiracy, dealing in petroleum products without license, and tampering with oil pipelines by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Port Harcourt Zonal Office.

Initially, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them which prepared grounds for their trials that lasted for three years. The EFCC presented evidence and witnesses that testified against the defendants in court.

Justice J. k Omotosho of the Federal High Court found them guilty of the charges and sentenced them to seven years imprisonment with an option of a fine of #2 million each.
