Amos Dauda, a 20-year-old mechanic was sentenced by the Karina Chief Magistrate Court to 15 strokes of the cane for stealing iPhone worth #150,000.
The convict pleaded guilty and prayed for leniency on the two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced the convict to 15 strokes of the cane and also ordered him to clean the court premises as part of his sentence.
The magistrate further urged him to be of good behavior and warned him to desist from committing crimes as the court would not be lenient with him next time.
Earlier on, Stephen Francis reported the matter at the Gabasawa Police Station where the prosecutor, Inspector Leo Chidi, said
the convict went into the complainant’s apartment while he was sleeping and stole his iPhone valued at N150,000.
The convict was caught in an attempt to flee from the house and the said iPhone was recovered from him.
Mr. Chidi stated that the offences contravened sections 257 and 271 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law of 2017.
