The President of the Senate, Students Union Government SUG, of the University of Nigeria, Dist.Senator Nnamani Ifeanyi was on the 17th of August, 2021 removed from office on the allegations of gross misconduct and misappropriation of public funds.
In a letter of his removal made available to NEWSIE EVENTS, and duly signed by Dist. Senator Ogbuh Chinazam, who is presently the acting president of the senate of the institution, it pointed out that Mr. Nnamani grossly violated the oats of the office he was occupying.
It listed his allegations as; misappropriation of pubic funds to the tune of N2,788,500, which is contrary to section 10(4) of the constitution of Students Union Government 2016.
The removed Senate President was also accused of abuse of constitutional powers when he illegally removed a senator from the senate.
Other allegations levelled against him include Total Disregards for Instructions of Government of the Students Union Government by describing Senators as Comedians and using it as their names instead of Senators as provided in the SUG constitution. He was also accused of Disobedience and Total Disregards to provisions of SUG Constitution 2016.
Consequently upon all these, the Acting Senate President in the notice, asked Mr Nnamani Ifeanyi of the faculty of law to with immediate effect vacate the office.
In addition, he was also mandated to refund the sum of N3, 238, 500 back to the coffers of the students’ union government.
The full text of the Notice of removal which was copied to the Vice Chancellor and other offices in the institution reads;
“Removal of the president of the Senate, Student Union Government University Of Nigeria
The Senate President has been charged with the following allegations which includes; 1) Misappropriation of public funds which amounts to damaging the image of the union and that of the prestigious University Community contrary to section 10(4) of the constitution of SUG 2016.
2) Abuse of Constitutional powers by illegally removing a Senator from the Senate and reviewing the judgement of the Judiciary contrary to section 10(1) of the SUG Constitution 2014
3) Total Disregards for Instructions of Government of the Students Union Government as he calls Senators Comedians, contrary to section 10(1) of the SUG Constitution 2016.
4) Disobedience and Total Disregards to provisions of SUG Constitution 2016 contrary to the. This Senate considers the above activities as Illegal, Inappropriate and amount to complete meaning gross misconduct as provided under section 18C(4) of the SUG Constitution 2016
That Senate President , Dist. Sen. Nnamani Ifeanyi stands removed as the Senate President of the Students Union Government , University of Nigeria on grounds of gross misconduct under section 18C(3) of SUG constitution 2016.
That Dist. Senator Nnamani Ifeanyi of faculty of law shall with immediate effect vacate office and refund the sum of N3, 238, 500 back to the students’ union government.
It Is On this Notice, that Dist. Sen. Nnamani Ifeanyi Shall No Longer Parade Himself as Senate President of the Students Union Government, University of Nigeria henceforth.

Reacting to this removal, a student who goes by the name Shedrack described Students Union leaders as Thieves and Corrupt.
He said that impeaching the Senate President won’t even solve anything, adding that the next person could be worst.
Shedrack bemoaned what will become of the country if such students politicians are the ones presenting themselves as students leaders. ‘We are in trouble in this country’ he said.
The very angry student pointed out that few years ago, another students union leader looted more than 4 million and was impeached. But, to the dismay of many, he was brought back through the back channel.
Shedrack stated that if he was to become the Vice-Chancellor, the first thing he must do with immediate effect will be to totally dissolve the SUG.
He wondered what will be going on in many ministries and institutions. and government agencies.
“This is just students union ! What is going on in many ministries, institutions, government agencies, judiciary, hospitals, it’s TERRIBLE!”
