The incumbent Chairman of Ibom power company Engr. Etido Inyang, FNSE has been nominated for the Grand Patron of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Nigeria Good Governance Group (NGGG). Sequel to this responsibility at the state level, Engr. Inyang was recently adopted as sole nominee for the position of the Board of Trustees (BOT) members from the South-south Geopolitical Zone of the organization at the National level. The adoption was made soon after the Selection and Analysis of Personal Antecedence in Governance (SAPAIG) committee unanimously endorsed Engr. Etido Inyang for the position following his immense contributions to the growth of the group in Akwa Ibom state.
Briefing newsmen after the general meeting which took place at the State branch Secretariat of the group in Uyo, on Saturday 24th October 2020, the state Chairman, Comrade Ekpenyong justified reasons the selection of the Ikot Ekpene born politician cum philanthropist, Engr. Etido Inyang as their Grand Patron and the best option for the group at the state level; and his subsequent nomination as member, BOT from the South-South geo-political zone at the national level.
Comrade Ekpenyong who described Engr. Etido Inyang as a decent, disciplined, and humble politician said that such is the caliber of leaders needed at a time when Nigerians are panting for true leadership in our country. He thanked members of the selection committee, most especially, Dr. Robson Offong, for considering the contributions of Engr. Inyang, for the survival of Good Governance and its activities in Akwa Ibom, from the inception of the group in 2016.
He said they have so much confidence that Engr. Inyang will give them effective representation at the national level of the group and are optimistic that he will always bring back results-oriented progress to the state branch of Nigeria Good Governance Group (NGGG).
The chief pilot of the good governance advocacy team in the state vehemently frowned and condemned in totality, the recent hijacking of the peaceful protest by the Nigerian youths, which suddenly resulted in brutality, killing, looting, and damaging of properties belonging to government and struggling individuals. He said the protests by the youths was a legitimate way of demonstrating their constitutional right against the wanton killings, molestation, and extortion by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria Police Force across the country. The protest which aims at bringing to an end, these criminal activities by those whose job was to protect lives and property, also bill to attract total reformation and motivating welfare package to the police system in Nigeria.
He said the group has equally kicked against violence, stealing, and destruction of both private and public property meted out in Uyo, the capital city on Thursday 22nd October 2020 by hoodlums who masqueraded themselves as #ENDSARS protesters. Therefore, in-as-much as the group is advocating for good governance which sets its priorities on security, economic and social welfare of the people as well as infrastructure, the recent act of destruction and looting in the state remains condemnable.
The group sympathizes with the families of those who lost their lives in the course of this struggle while calling on government to dig deep into the matter to ensure that all those who perpetrated the killings and those who destroyed our collective property in the state are brought to book, for justice to take its course” and commended the state Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, for his quick intervention.
