Mark Angel Urges FG To Leave Social Media Alone, Face Other Problems In Nigeria.

A Popular Nigerian Video Producer and a comedian, Mark Angel has lent his voice to the government’s plan to regulate social media in the country.

Speaking to The PUNCH Facebook Live interview, Mark Angel, urged the Federal government to leave social media and face other problems bedevilling the country, noting that the regulation will bring more hardship on the Nigerian youths who uses various social media to earn a living by creating contents.

According to the producer best known for the Mark Angel Comedy Series on various social media platforms, a lot of Nigerian youths earn their living by creating content on social media.

The producer of popular comedienne, Emanuella Samuel, called on those pushing for the social media restrictions to not tamper with the only major source of survival for the youths instead, they should channel same energy to solving other ‘major problems’ in the country.

In his words, “Imagine you want to regulate social media when some of us are self-employed through social media. There are no jobs, yet you want to restrict social media. I don’t even want to talk about that thing. Anybody that even tries it, it is God that will knock on his door and answer him.”

Recall that the issue of regulating social media has been on the front burner recently. Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and culture who is championing the call blamed the serious issue of FAKE NEWS as the main reason for the call. He said, “the country is sitting on a keg of gunpowder if the issue of fake news is not urgently addressed.”

According to the Minister, the #EndSARS protest was propelled with the help of social media which was believed to have been used to circulate non-existent news.

The regulation move has been supported by most governors who also share in the belief that social media helped to fuel the protest has, however, been condemned by civil society organisations who described it as a violation of the right to freedom of expression.
