American R&B singer Chris Brown has received an eight-month suspended prison sentence in the United Kingdom over his involvement in an attack on music producer Abraham Diaw at a London nightclub in 2023.
The 37-year-old singer was sentenced on Monday, October 26, 2026, at Southwark Crown Court after pleading guilty to one count of affray in July.
Under the ruling, Brown’s prison sentence was suspended for 12 months, meaning he will not serve immediate jail time but could face imprisonment if he violates the conditions of the suspension.
The case arose from an incident at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, central London, in February 2023, during which Brown reportedly struck Diaw twice on the head with a glass tequila bottle. The producer sustained injuries to his head and knee.
Prosecutors told the court that CCTV footage captured the incident, which also involved Brown’s vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, who allegedly participated in the attack.
Akinlolu, 40, was handed a four-month suspended prison sentence, also for 12 months. Both men were ordered to pay £1,500 in costs.
During the proceedings, Judge Tony Baumgartner described the attack as dangerous, noting that striking someone on the head with a glass bottle could have resulted in more serious injuries.
The judge also made it clear that Brown’s fame and commercial success would not earn him special treatment under the law.
Brown was arrested in Manchester in May 2025 after returning to Britain for a concert, more than two years after the nightclub incident.
He had initially faced charges including assault and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm. However, following his guilty plea to affray, prosecutors dropped the other charges.
The sentencing concludes the criminal proceedings arising from the incident, with the singer avoiding immediate imprisonment.
