COVID-19: UK Tightens Rules As Cases Continue To Increase

By Chinenye Festus:-

The British Capital on Wednesday entered the highest level of Covid-19 restrictions in an effort to curb the spread of the infection.

Part of the UK’s move to reduce infection is “Tiers 3” This means that pubs, theaters, and restaurants will be closed down although people can get food from takeaway outlets and go home with it.

It also means that people cannot socialize with anyone who is not from their household. And the gathering of more than six persons is highly discouraged.

To further buttress the importance of strict adherence to Covid-19 guidelines. London had been placed in “Tier 2”, which means non-essential shops and services can open, but it currently has one of the highest infection rates in the country.

Under Tier 3, essential shops and hairdressers can still stay open, as can schools but not indoor entertainment venues.

Matt Hancock who is the Health Secretary on Monday warned that London had seen a “sharp rise” in daily cases and hospital admissions.

“This action is absolutely essential, not just to keep people safe but because we have seen early action can prevent more damage and longer-term problems later,” he told parliament.

He also said there is a high increase in some areas as cases of Coronavirus doubles even amongst secondary school children aged 11-18 which led to an increase in the testing capacity.

Britain has been one of the worst affected countries in the pandemic, registering nearly 65,000 deaths from just under 1.9 million positive cases, according to government figures.

Recall that earlier this month, England announced a four-week lockdown which made their government to devise a targeted regional system of tiers in order to curb the spread of the infection rates.
