Court Orders Senator Ali Ndume Be Remanded In Prison For Failing To Produce Maina

By Chinenye Festus:-

A federal high court sitting in Abuja has asked that the Senator representing Borno South Federal Constituency Ali Ndume be placed in custody at Kuje Correctional Centre pending the fulfilment of his bail bond, which is a forfeiture of N500 million to the federal government.

Justice Okon Abang who delivered this bench ruling said the senator’s inability to provide the former Chairman of the defunct Pension Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina who is standing trial for alleged money laundering and whom he stood for surety was the reason for this ruling.

It was gathered that Maina has failed to appear before the court severally for the continuation of his trial.

Abang further stated that once Ndume is able to pay the N500 Million bond, he will be released from Kuje with immediate effect.

The court also gave a go-ahead to the government to sell the Senator’s property at Asokoro so as to recover the N500 million bond if he fails to produce Maina whose case is adjourned to November 24.

Ndume’s lawyer Marcel Oru said he is determined to appeal the court’s ruling.
