A non-governmental organisation, Lions Clubs International, has vowed to do more in spreading awareness about visual health and providing eye care services to Nigerians.

The district governor, district 404B4 Nigeria Lion Samson Abodunrin (PMJF NLCF) stated this in commemoration of the world sights preservation day globally observed by lions club International.

Lion Samson (PMJF NLCF) said sight is the light of the entire body and that’s why lions club is committed to visual health informed its decision to make its awareness campaign a core project to create an awareness campaign and enlighten the people.

The District Governor, said there was a need to ensure that no one was deprived of the gift of sight

“We understand the profound impact that clear vision can have on an individual’s quality of life. It is our duty and responsibility to ensure that no one is deprived of the gift of sight.

“We will collaborate with eye care professionals, organisations, and communities to provide comprehensive eye care projects, spread awareness about visual health, and support individuals with visual impairments,” the District governor said.

Also speaking one of the Lion leaders in the region, Lion David kehinde Akinwale says the activities to create awareness for restoration of sight symbolises our relentless dedication to bring about positive changes, to challenge the status quo, and to foster a spirit of innovation in our service endeavours as members of the lion club International.

 

 

“It is a call to action to breathe new life into the way we engage in service, to push the boundaries of what is possible, and to chart a new trajectory of lasting impact,” he said.

The world sight preservation day which took place at roll back malaria House polv Road, Eleyele ibadan, Oyo State captured the top fans and leaders of the club passionately distributing flyers on the street, market and parks, informing the vulnerables the opportunity to availed themselves

In her speech the Chairperson, world sight day Lion (Yeye) Abimbola Oshunsan, NLCF welcome all the leaders of the region including the regional Chairperson Lion Engr. Sola Adeola, ranking officers of the region and the beneficiaries.

She made it known that over 39 million people worldwide live with blindness and 245 million with low vision from the world statistics. To add salt to the wounds, 90% of the blind live in low income countries. Ironically, 80% of blindness is preventable and treatable”

” This is s a timely reminder of that clichéd maxim which still holds true, that “prevention is better than cure”.

 

” Throughout the whole world, Lions Clubs International must carry out 8 important events that will help millions of people globally. These major events are called the pillars or global causes of Lions Clubs International”

“They are; vision, Environment, Hunger, Childhood Cancer, Diabetes, Youth Empowerment, Disaster relief and Humanitarian efforts.

We are therefore gathered here to carry out one of these pillars which is tagged Vision and Sight Preservation.

You will agree with me that Sight is indeed the light of the body. Our world is filled with an extreme variety of colors, shapes, and patterns. Sight gives us the ability to perceive movement, and vision gives us the ability to make assessments about that movement.

On this note, I welcome you all to this important and rewarding event. I also thank all the committee members that brainstormed together with me to bring this event to reality”

 

Lion Yeye while commending the lion club International for humanitarian services to the society, also called on the beneficiaries to make proper use of the opportunity to interact with health personnel’s available to breach lasting solutions to whatever default their sight.

Major points of the 2023 world sights preservation day, was street awareness campaign inviting members of the public to adorned the opportunity to install their sight, health talk on the caauses of sight effects, some of the beneficiaries went back with glasses, some received eyes drop, drugs, proper counselling and recommendations to government hospitals for further treatment.

In attendance was the district governor Lion Sampson Abodunrin accompanied by some of his District leaders, the regional Chairperson, Lion Engr Sola Adeola, childhood cancer awareness campaign Chairperson, Lion Toyin Oladapo and various leaders of the club in ibadan.

Ibadan metropolitan lions club, Eleyele exclusive lions club, Hilltop lions club, Akobo integrity lion club, Ibadan were all present to marked the 2023 world sights preservation day.
