Newspaper Vendors In Abuja Protests Over Killing Of Colleague By Gbajabiamila’s Aide[Video]

Newspaper vendors, Abuja chapter took to the street on Friday 20th November to vent their bitterness over the killing of one of their members, Ifeanyi Okereke Elechi who was hit by a stray bullet by an aide to the speaker House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila on Thursday evening.

The speaker who confirmed this in the early hours of Friday said the incident was very unfortunate as it was never an intentional act.

According to him, Elechi was shot by a stray bullet which was meant to disperse the crowd as he exchanging pleasantries with the vendors on his way out of the National Assembly complex.

While commiserating with the family of the deceased, the Speaker expressed distraught about the incident.

“A horrible incident has taken place. This evening as I left the national assembly, I stopped, as usual, to exchange pleasantries with the newspaper vendors at the corner,” he explained.

“Many of them have known me since I first moved to Abuja and it was a friendly exchange. Unfortunately, after the convoy set out in continuation of movement, unidentified men obstructed the convoy which got the attention of security men in the convoy who shot into the air to disperse them”
“In the meantime; the officer who fired the fatal shot has been suspended from the convoy pending the conclusion of the investigation.”

Gbajabiamila described the incident as unfortunate as he recounted that hours after he got the information that one Mr. Elechi has been hit by a stray bullet, he was already briefed by his security personnel that they applied caution and shot into the air.
