N‘mma Lancaster Okoro Lauds Buhari On Electoral Amendment Bill Assent

Former Abia North and FCT Senatorial Candidate at the 2015 and 2019 general elections, and 2023 Abia State Governorship hopeful Barr.Nnenna N’mma Lancaster Okoro says the signing into law of the 2022 Electoral Amendment bill by President Muhammadu Buhari will go a long way in correcting the wrongs in Nigeria electoral system.

In a press statement from her foundation, The Lancaster Foundation, signed by the Director General Lancaster Foundation, Comrade Chineduano Obani Okpara said the president’s assent to the bill is a welcome development, noting that the bill, if implemented will aid the activities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and also create opportunities that will allow the ordinary citizen to choose representatives who will hold positions of authority.

The Governorship hopeful said that the previous decline by the President to sign the amendment bill would have left Nigeria’s electoral system in coma in years to come and it would have also create more negative impacts on the electorates in pre and post-election matters.

The statement reads in part. “It is a welcome development that Mr. President has as a matter of urgency ascended to the electoral amendment bill, and as a several participant in elections in Nigeria, I strongly believe that direct and indirect primaries was never an issue, the important thing is transparency and credibility of the total process”

“The bill has given a huge task to political parties in strengthening their internal democracy, where members and their total structure makes decision without issues and also allows each aspirant to show his /her acceptability to the people and encouragement of one man one vote.”

Barr N’mma Lancaster Okoro further appreciated the NGOs, CSOs and well-meaning Nigerians who took part in the campaign to ensure the president assented to the bill, while urging the people to remain focus by receiving the power back as stipulated in the bill saying that the challenge of improving the electoral process is a continuous one.

She, therefore, eulogized the commitments of the National Assembly for their struggle in ensuring that the yearnings and aspiration of the people is actualized, and advised them to commence speedy passage of other people oriented bills domiciled at the legislative chambers.

Barr N’mma therefore called on all Abians to see the importance of using this opportunity in registering at the ongoing voter registration by INEC in other to get their PVC and participate in election and decide those that will be at the elective positions in the state come 2023.
