Return my car battery or face my anger” — Village head threatens federal lawmaker

By Our Reporter

The Village Head of Abiakpo in Otoro Abak LGA Akwa Ibom state, Chief Emmanuel Umoren, has publicly expressed deep disappointment over what he described as neglect and disregard by the Member representing Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency, Hon. Clement Jimbo, following his emergence into office in 2023.

Speaking during a consultation visit by Engr. Iboro Johnny to the Otoro Clan Council of Chiefs at the Development Centre, Otoro Abak, Chief Umoren recounted a personal experience he said reflects the incumbent lawmaker’s attitude toward those who supported him to win in the last election. According to the traditional ruler, during Hon. Jimbo’s first-term consultation visit to his palace, his vehicle developed a fault due to a failed battery.

“In that moment, I personally gave him my car battery so he could return home without difficulty,” Chief Umoren revealed. “But immediately after he won the election, he deleted my number. Till today, he has not deemed it necessary to return, say thank you, or even maintain contact nor return my car battery. I doubt he can still remember the road to my house.” but someone should please tell him to return my car battery, otherwise he’ll face my anger”

The Village Head, who spoke in strong terms, warned that such actions reflect poorly on leadership and accountability. He alleged that Hon. Jimbo has exhibited traits of arrogance, pomposity, and grandiosity, adding that these tendencies have distanced him from the people he was elected to serve.

Chief Umoren further expressed regret over his past support for the lawmaker, stating that his expectations for responsive and inclusive representation have not been met. He emphasized that effective leadership requires humility, accessibility, and sustained engagement with constituents beyond election periods.

Assessing the broader performance of the representative, the traditional leader maintained that the constituency has yet to feel the full impact of meaningful representation, noting that constituents deserve a leader who remains connected to their needs and concerns at all times.

The remarks have sparked conversations within the Otoro community and beyond, raising fresh concerns about accountability, leadership style, and the quality of representation in the federal constituency.
